Dori finds most of her inspiration from the natural world. Hiking in Colorado offers unlimited subject matter. Working from her own photographs as reference she slowly builds up layers, from light to dark and detailed. Painting is a form of meditation that allows Dori to focus on the subject while listening to quiet music. This is often a slow process of discovery as the forms take shape on the flat surface. All whites are the white of the paper and the colors become saturated with the many layers. The result often looks photographic, but upon closer inspection one can see the careful brushwork. Dori works in a home studio in North Boulder.
